For the second year running Hampshire Archery Association teams win both the Recurve and Compound Trophies.
Once again the Recurve team, consisting of James Keogh, Lee Miller, Teresa Hall, Caroline Owen, Marc Bunyard and Chris Baigent, won their section of the SCAS Inter-County Team Championships. This year the opposition was stronger than last, including GB archer Michael Peart. A special mention must be made of Lee Miller who, despite a catastrophic failure of the top limb bolt on his Nexus, managed to cobble things together with help from bits from Chris Baigent's spare bow, and went on to help the team win.
Unlike last year, when the Compound team only won on golds, this year they won by a slim margin. The team, consisting of Mark Franklin, Sandra Pickrell, Penny Sherwood, Jennie Ham, James Druce and Simon Davey, was only fourth after the first two dozen but worked their way up to second by the end of 10 dozen, a mere 5 points in front. Over the last two dozen the team were near perfect, only dropping a handful of points between them, particularly Sandra who determinedly matched GB International Nicky Hunt shot for shot in order to negate Bedfordshire's chance of using Nicky to whittle away at our lead, both scoring a perfect 216 for the last two dozen.
My congratulations and thanks to the above two teams, and also to all the archers who have so successfully represented the County this year.
