HAA Field Archery Championships

This years HAA Field Champs were held last Sunday at Head Down near Buriton. Raven Field Archers hosted the event which was combined with their annual open shoot.

The shoot took place in beautiful Beech Woodland close to the Queen Elizabeth Country Park. The course had plenty of slopes and a few tricky shots to keep even the best archers guessing. The first day was a 24 target FITAunmarked round followed by a marked round on the Sunday. There were lots of complementary remarks made about the course so hopefully it might be repeated next year.

Archers from all over the UK attended the two days but the turnout from Hampshire Archers was poor. Why not give it a try next year? It's just target archery in the woods really. The Hampshire Championships day was a marked round so you didn't have to guess distances, it's just not quite as flat as you might be used to!

Many thanks to everyone at Ravens for putting on a first class event.

Hampshire triumph in close match with Sussex
Written by David Strong
Thursday, 22 April 2010

From Mel, our new Hants Team Manager:

"The first match under my wing as Team Manager, I was very pleased to have an overall win by Hants, there was not a lot in it, Hants 24,994 to Sussex 24,262. Sussex have beaten us for the past two years, so well done one and all.  It was very close throughout the day on the leader board. The overall scores can be found on the link.

Congratulations to everyone that got a PB that day. I ordered the weather and it came nice and hot, suntan cream for all. Well done to all that braved the toilets, this was good practice for those of you going to festivals over the summer.

Thanks to the judges, Ray and Carla for coming to my aid at such short notice. Thanks also to the small teams that did various tasks so I could shoot; runners for the leader board, catering, equipment.

My last thanks goes to the Sussex Team for making the journey to the shoot and thanks to Doreen for her help with the running of the day.

Let this be the first win of many to come, GO Hants GO."
